Smith Controls was established in 1968 and is strategically located in the hi-tech Hudson Valley region, just 30 miles south of Albany.


The Staff is widely experienced, highly professional, and has years of diversified application knowledge.  They have implemented projects in the Pulp and Paper, Food and Beverage, Batching, Material Handling, Municipal and Industrial Water/Waste Water Treatment, Machine Tool, SCADA, Process Control and OEM Markets. Smith Control Systems has a 10,000 Sq Ft. UL-508 shop that is complete with state of the art equipment which maximizes the efficiency and quality of construction.

AFFILIATIONS

  • UL-508 approved facility.
  • In 1977 we were named the North American Service Organization for Strayfield, Ltd., a manufacturer of High Frequency DI-Electric Dryers. These dryers are used primarily in the food, textile and paper converting industries with an installed base of over 200 units. We are responsible for new machine installations, warranty service as well as routine machine maintenance for any dryers located in North America including Mexico.

FACILITY

We have 10,000 square feet divided into 3,000 square feet of engineering offices and 7,000 square feet of manufacturing space; complete with multiple height loading docks and floor level access.

  • On-site computerized engraving system and label printing.
  • All drawings are prepared using AutoCAD.

Thomas H. Smith, Jr /

President

Thomas has 35+ years experience designing control systems and project management.  He is responsible for company management, fiscal supervision of all projects, including timetable production schedules and job costing analysis.  He has worked on projects for the material handling, food processing, paper processing and water and wastewater.

Michael Keating /

Vice President of Engineering

With more than 17 years of experience in the instrumentation and controls (I&C) field, Michael is skilled in the design, specification, building of custom control & instrumentation systems for various industries including waste water treatment plants, water treatment plants, aggregate plants, mining & manufacturing facilities. His expertise also includes project management, PLC programming, HMI programming and the use of AutoCAD. His knowledge base includes Rockwell/Allen Bradley CLX5000, Rockwell/Allen Bradley RSLogix 500, Rockwell/Allen Bradley RSLogix 5, Rockwell/Allen Bradley PanelView, Rockwell/Allen Bradley Factory Talk View (SE & ME), GE Proficy, Wonderware HMI, DirectLogics, C-More OIT, Phoenix Contact RaD-Link, Red Lion Crimson, Foxboro I/A DCS, AspenTech InfoPlus.21, Measurex Consept One.

David Stein /

Project Engineer

Dave has 24 years experience in industrial control systems working for various OEM’s. His area of expertise includes Distributor Technical Support, and Systems Integration. Projects include Control Systems Upgrades, Material Handling, Water Treatment and Food Packaging. His software experience includes Rockwell Automation, Allen Bradley, Modicon, Texas Instruments, GE Fanuc, Intellution.

Tim Keating /

Application/HMI Programmer

Tim has 12+ years experience in personal computer building, repair & configuration. He has 10+ years of experience using Microsoft Windows based applications, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, ORACLE and Access databases. Tim has 5 years of experience designing, developing, integrating and deploying custom GUI applications within a National large scale environment. Tim worked 13 years at Time Warner Cable performing the aforementioned experiences as well as Systems Training Supervisor. Tim also has experience programming industrial control system HMIs utilizing standard industry software Rockwell's FactoryTalk Products (View ME & View SE), Rockwell's Logix family or products (RSLogix 5/500/5000).


William Farley /

Field Service Technician

Bill has 25+ years overall experience in a computer environment comprising of 15+ years experience diagnosing and repairing computer hardware and software issues. 10+ years Web site design & development  10+ years Network Management. 6 years control panel & System integration. His software experience includes Windows Operating platforms, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop 7 , MS Access, Microsoft Office.
